Catalyst Carrier is an inert material used as a support for the catalyst. Literally speaking, when the catalyst carrier changes the rate of reaction, it is no longer a carrier. It is usually a major constituent of the catalyst, which serves as a base or support for the active component but which by itself is inactive for the desired reaction. It provides more even distribution of the catalyst. It preserves the fine dispersion of the catalyst, hinder aggregation by sintering, and increase the stability and life of the catalyst. It helps in dissipating localized heat, which prevents sintering of the catalyst.
