Continuous distillation column is the equipment set used to accomplish the distillation process. It has a set of key components including a column shell, trays, partial reboiler, condensing unit and reflux drum. A few requirements must be satisfied for a continuous distillation column to achieve separation: Two phases (liquid and vapor) are present, compounds have different volatilities (boiling points), and separation of the two phases is possible (usually by gravity).
