An abrasive jet pressurizes water up to 55,000 pounds per square inch and then forces it through a small sapphire/diamond orifice at 2500 feet second. Abrasive waterjets can machine a wide range of thicknesses and materials, including metal, plastic, glass, ceramics, stone & composites. Abrasive jets cut material at room temperatures. As a result, there are no heat-effected areas/structural changes in materials. Abrasive jets can also machine hardened metals and materials with low melting points.
