Mechanical Thermostat is typically used to control the operation of heaters on a spacecraft. It consists of a small hermetically sealed can containing a switch driven by a snap action bimetallic actuator. The temperature at which the thermostat clicks on, known as its set point, is fixed for any given thermostat. In addition to the set point, the dead band or the difference between the temperatures at which the thermostat turns on or off is important.
