Powder coating is a dry coating method in which fine clear or pigmented powder particles, containing resin, modifiers and possibly a curing agent, are electrostatically sprayed onto a substrate and heated in an oven to form a continuous film. These techniques deposit dry paint powders that may be electrostatically charged for better adhesion to a ground object. This is followed by a thermal cure to melt the powders and form uniform film. The principal advantages of these coatings are improved quality, reduced finishing costs, elimination of harmful solvents, high material utilization and reduced solid waste disposal costs. In addition mixing of solvents, mixing serves time, storage space, equipment, labor, pollution problems and fire hazard are minimized. The deposition process is cleaner, powder spills can be easily vacuum-cleaned and safety regulations are readily implemented. The coating process can be fully automated. These coatings reduces atmospheric pollution by solvents to zero, they also have a great advantage in material savings through reclamation of powder.
