Rapid Prototyping describes a software engineering methodology. Rapid prototyping is the automatic construction of physical objects using solid freeform fabrication. Rapid prototyping takes virtual designs from computer aided design (CAD) or animation modeling software and then creates each cross section in physical space. This implies that there is a short time between conceiving an initial notion and modeling it in physical form & between successive iterations. Rapid prototyping is a process, by which a solid physical model of a part is made directly from a three dimensional CAD drawing. Rapid protyping is also called desktop manufacturing or free-form fabrication.
