Surge protection devices are designed to protect sensitive electronic equipment and devices circuits from noise or damaging voltages and currents. It provides protection for an entire service panel and simply installs in place of two single-pole breakers. The ideal surge protection would absorb all voltages and currents outside the links operating range, while not limiting the link's transmissions in any way. Surges are very high pulses of voltage lasting less than a hundredth of a second. It is caused by induction and by power-line transients. In normal operation, the surge protection device presents high impedance and is virtually invisible to the transmitting circuits.
