Wiper die is used to prevent wrinkles from inner wall compression on the inside radius during the bending process. It is used in conjunction with ball mandrels. A mandrel cannot control the inherent wall compression at the inside of the bend. A compression causes the tube wall at the inside of the bend to wrinkle if the wiper die is not used. Wiper dies are frustrating tools in the setup for many reasons.
