It is also used for a kind of tool used to form flanges. It can also be a plate or ring to form a rim at the end of a pipe when fastened to the pipe. A flange joint is a connection of pipes, where the connecting pieces have flanges by which the parts are bolted together.
Flap type diverter valves are designed to divert powders and pellets in dilute phase pneumatic conveying systems. It consists of a casing in stainless steel lined with engineering polymer and a flap in engineering polymer with a steel core. The flap is activated by a manual lever, or by a pneumatic or electric actuator.
