A worm wheel is also known as worm drive. It is a type of gear that consists of a cylinder with a spiral groove mounted on a shaft. It is used to greatly reduce rotational speed, or to allow higher torque to be transmitted. Worm and worm-wheel increases the range of applications that it may be suitable for, especially when the worm gears compactness is considered. Worm-drives have been used in a few automotive differentials. The worm-wheel carries the differential gearing. This protects the vehicle against rollback. A worm drive is used on jubilee type hose clamps or jubilee clamps, the tightening screw has a worm thread which engages with a slots on the clamp band.

Wound cartridges are widely used for pre-filtration purpose in RO plant. These wound cartridges are manufactured from polypropylene, cotton, or glass fiber material. After knitting and weaving, the material is wound on the supporting core with carefully controlled micron rating. Wound cartridges works on the principle of depth filtration. These cartridges are extremely good for removing suspended impurities from liquid. These are designed for lower pressure drop and higher flow rates, and are available in various sizes and micron ratings to meet different requirements. These cartridges are available in any combination of polypropylene/glass filled/cotton/rayon/viscous and polypropylene/stainless steel/tin/MS/nylon core materials.

The slip ring or wound rotor motor is an induction machine. The rotors comprises of a set of coils that are terminated in slip rings to which external impedances can be connected. The stator is the same as is used with a standard squirrel cage motor. By changing the impedance connected to the rotor circuit, the speed/current and speed/torque curves can be altered. The slip ring motor is used primarily to start a high inertia load or a load that requires a very high starting torque across the full speed range. By correctly selecting the resistors used in the secondary resistance or slip ring starter, the motor is able to produce maximum torque at a relatively low current from zero speed to full speed. A secondary use of the slip ring motor is to provide a means of speed control. Because the resistance connected to the rotor circuit effectively modifies the torque curve of the motor, the speed of the motor can be altered. Increasing the value of resistance on the rotor circuit will move the speed of maximum torque down. If the resistance connected to the rotor is increased beyond the point where the maximum torque occurs at zero speed, the torque will be further reduced.
