Gas membrane separators consist of synthetic membranes generally made of polymeric compounds, which have a non-porous structure. This allows only certain gases with suitable diffusion capacity to diffuse through the membrane while others do not. By selecting the suitable membrane material and varying its thickness, it is possible for the membrane to diffuse specific types of gases through them. Sometimes porous membranes are also used, provided the pore size is suitable for the gas molecule that has to diffuse through it. Applications of gas membrane separators are separation of hydrogen form ammonia plants, separation of individual organic components for biogas and removal of toxic gases from a confines enclosure.

Gas metal arc welding is a semi-automatic or automatic arc welding process in which a continuous and consumable wire electrode and a shielding gas are fed through a welding gun. A constant voltage, direct current power source is most commonly used with GMAW, but constant current systems, as well as alternating current, can be used.

The gas mixing system is a clean, leak-free, stainless steel system designed to uniformly mix metallorganic and hydride sources prior to reaching the growth zone. The function of the gas mixing manifold is crucial for growing superlattices, quantum well structures and for reducing the memory effect associated with some dopant sources. The gas mixing manifold first stabilizes the flow and then directs the flow to the reaction chamber. At other times the flow is sent directly to the vent. The gas handling manifold has air-pressure-controlled valves that can be opened or closed.
