The screwdriver is a device, which is specifically designed to insert and tighten, or to loosen and remove, screws. It comprises a head or tip which engages with a screw, a mechanism to apply torque by rotating the tip, and some way to position and support the screwdriver. A typical hand screwdriver comprises an approximately cylindrical handle of a size and shape to be held by a human hand, and an axial shaft fixed to the handle, the tip of which is shaped to fit a particular type of screw. The handle and shaft allow the screwdriver to be positioned and supported and, when rotated, to apply torque. Screwdrivers are made in a variety of shapes, and the tip can be rotated manually or by an electric or other motor. A screw has a head with a contour such that an appropriate screwdriver tip can be engaged in it in such a way that the application of sufficient torque to the screwdriver will cause the screw to rotate.

Screw dryers are used for drying pourable products at low temperatures. Large surfaces of heat transfer are obtained due to the heated vertical mixing screw. Even at low temperatures, large quantities of energy are transmitted by the surfaces resulting in gentle drying of products sensitive to temperatures. Conical screw dryers consist of a hopper-type container and a rotating mixing tool arranged vertically. By means of this mixing tool, the product is conveyed upward in the center and slides down at the walls. Due to this intensive exchange, a high heat transfer is obtained. The product is discharged at the bottom of the container. The advantage of the screw dryer is the large heat-exchanging surface with low space requirements. Good residual emptying and easy cleaning of the machine are additional advantages. The dryers can be additionally equipped with injection devices, pressure and temperature measuring units as well as sampling devices. In the case of special executions of the mixing tool it is also possible to provide knife heads.

Screw Feeders is a mechanism for handling bulk pulverized or granulated solid materials, in which a rotating helicoid screw moves the material forward, toward and into a process unit. Screw feeders are used extensively in bulk materials handling and powder processing industries to provide good volumetric feed control over extended periods. However the feed rate from screw feeders vary considerably during a single revolution of the screw. For dry non-cohesive materials the feed rate pulses significantly with each screw revolution and for cohesive materials the feed rate changes erratically during each screw revolution due to intermittent material hang up at the discharge outlet.
