Chlorine evaporators convert liquid chlorine to chlorine gas by passing the liquid through a hot water bath. They are generally used when the chlorine withdrawal exceeds 680 kg/d. Each evaporator contains an electric water heater and a pump to recirculate the hot water. Evaporator receives the liquid chlorine from the container and vaporizes it to chlorine gas in a sealed pressurized chamber. The chamber is surrounded by a hot water bath, which provides the heat for vaporization. All evaporators should be equipped with a pressure-reducing, automatic shut-off valve to prevent liquid chlorine from entering the chlorinator. A cathodic protection system should be provided to protect against corrosion, and the exterior of the water bath should be insulated.
