An iris valve is used to control the flow of bulk solid materials. It consists of a flexible cylindrical sleeve, a control ring, and a polymeric isolator disc. Rotating the control ring twists the flexible sleeve in an iris pattern to close an opening through the valve. Clamp bands attached to the upper body member and control ring include a machined helical pattern to securely grip the ends of the flexible sleeve, and a threaded handle locks the control ring in place against the body members.

An isolation valve is a valve designed to separate or isolate the fluid media from the inner workings of the valve. These are used for diverting process media, facilitating maintenance, equipment removal and shutdown. In a solenoid valve this is typically accomplished using a diaphragm. Also known as a diaphragm valve, the only materials wetted by the fluid media are the valve body and the diaphragm itself. The plunger and spring are isolated from the fluid media. Isolation valves are typically desirable in sensitive applications such as scientific and medical instrumentation, where engineers want to maintain the chemical integrity of a fluid sample.

A linear actuator is a type of electric motor, which develops force and motion linearly. It is a device, used to generate controlled physical linear displacement. There are various means of achieving this linear displacement. It moves the heads in and out over the platters in a straight line. The coil moves in and out on a track surrounded by the stationary magnets. The primary advantage of the linear design is that it eliminates the head azimuth variations that occur with rotary positioning systems. A linear actuator does not rotate the head as it moves from one cylinder to another, thus eliminating this problem.

The load limiter is simply an automatic circuit breaker. The only difference between load limiter and circuit breaker lies in the degree of accuracy in response to an excess current. It enables electricity to be sold to consumers with low electricity consumption levels, on a secure and affordable basis. It provides significant capital and running cost advantages over kilowatt-hour meters and additional benefits including demand-side management. If the current exceeds the prescribed limit, the load limiter automatically disconnects the supply. It automatically resets and can therefore be mounted in an inaccessible place, such as on the service pole. This reduces problems of electricity theft.
