Air pilot switch consists of a high-pressure sensor operator connected directly to a three-way air valve that can be operated either normally open or closed. The spring in the sensor applies a counteracting force to the switch and is adjustable within the spring range. All air pilot switches are subject to dead band conditions, which should be considered when using the valve. A dead band is described as the difference in pressure between a set point of sensing pressure and a pressure at which the air valve returns to the original position. Dead band conditions vary by pressure range in percentage with high-pressure conditions reducing the dead band range. Air pilot switch valves are most commonly used to control automatic turn on and shut off of a gas booster or pump system and are used in conjunction with a remote pilot on the booster or pump.

Ball lead screws are used to change the rotary motion to linear motion, and torque to thrust, and vice versa. These are a power screw with a train of ball bearings riding between the screw and the nut in a recirculating track. It has a rounded shape to conform to the balls. It converts torque into linear motion through direct sliding friction. It is very similar to a regular nut and bolt combination.

Air cylinders are driven by pressure differential in the cylinder chambers. One side of a piston flange may be pressurized to provide force and motion with a spring providing return force after pressure is released or both sides can be alternately pressurized for bi-directional powered motion. Air cylinders are used in many positioning, actuating and clamping applications and devices. Choices for cylinder style includes tie rod, smooth body, pancake, rectangular, and multiple bore. Tie rod cylinders are held together by exterior tie rods, they are usually in a rectangular bolt pattern. In a smooth body cylinder style, the cylinder body encases the piston. A pancake cylinder has a shorter length and larger diameter than other styles. A rectangular cylinder is encased in a rectangular box shape frame. In a multiple bore cylinder two or more bores and pistons are combined or stacked in same cylinder. The cylinder can be single or double action. Single action cylinders frequently incorporate a return spring to the un-powered position. In a double action analyzer both sides of piston can be pressurized for reversible motion.
