The controllers where all the basic functions are performed by hand are called manual controllers. There are three principal types of manual controllers: faceplate, multiple-switch, and drum. Manual controllers are used in telerobotic applications to control remote robots by local human operators. The applications include space operations, undersea activities, nuclear site cleanup, and microsurgery.
