Elutriator is a device used for separating lighter particles from heavier ones using a vertically-directed stream of gas or liquid. The smaller or lighter particles rise to the top because their terminal velocities are lower than the velocity of the rising fluid. Basically an elutriator is a vertical settling chamber. It consists of one or more tubes or chambers arranged in series, into which a dust-laden gas stream passes upward at a velocity defined by the gas flow rate and the tube cross-sectional area. It retains or removes particles above a given size or size range and emits the remaining airborne particles. Large particles with terminal settling velocities greater than the upward gas velocity are separated and collected at the bottom of the chamber. Smaller particles with lower settling velocities are carried out of the collector. Changing the gas velocities will therefore affect the particle size collected.

Endless Belt Vacuum Filter comprises an endless belt pierced in the central part with holes moving above the upper opening of a longitudinal vacuum and extending beneath the upper side of the conveyor belt. An endless filtering medium passes over guide rollers and is applied on the upper side of the conveyor belt in order to receive the mass to be filtered. The vacuum box is mounted to pivot about a longitudinal axis offset laterally on one side of the conveyor belt. The endless belt vacuum filter system takes dirty coolant and pulls through the nylon belt by way of a pump that creates a low-pressure area below the belt.

Entrainment separators are also called mist eliminators, which are used to remove the liquid droplets. Although the major function of an entrainment separator is to prevent liquid carryover, it also performs additional scrubbing and recovers the scrubbing liquor, which saves on operating costs. It is therefore usually an integral part of any wet scrubbing system. Entrained liquid droplets vary in size depending on how the droplets are formed. Drops that are torn from the body of a liquid are large (10-100 micrometer in diameter), whereas drops that are formed by a chemical reaction or by condensation are of the order of 5 micrometer or less in diameter. Numerous types of entrainment separators are used to remove these droplets that include cyclonic separator, wire mesh pad separator, chevron blade separator and impingement blade separator.

Equalizing basin is installed ahead of the neutralizing system whenever possible. This will tend to level out fluctuations in influent flow and concentration. This point cannot be overemphasized, because the lack of such a basin has been the cause of many failures. Pumping from an equalizing basin at a constant rate eliminates the need for high range ability flow rate instrumentation. This, in combination with reduced variations in base or acid content, reduces the reagent feed range requirements. Equalization tanks are commonly used in industrial waste treatment to smooth out variations in flow and concentration that are expected in typical batch productions.

Evaporative coolers use less than one-third the energy of air-conditioners, and cost about half as much to install. It provides a steady stream of fresh air into the house. However, they require more frequent maintenance than refrigerated air-conditioners and they are suitable only for areas with low humidity. An evaporative cooler should have at least two speeds and a vent-only option. During vent-only operation, the water pump does not operate and the outdoor air is not humidified.
