A common form of turbine pump is the vertical pump, which has the pump element mounted at the bottom of a column that serves as the discharge pipe. Such units are immersed in the liquid to be pumped and are commonly used for wells, condenser circulating water and large volume drainage. It is used for water or fluid extraction in well applications. It has a high head and high discharge pressure for their size and speed. These are constructed of a bowl assembly, impellers, a motor adapter, and a pump shaft and can be used in an aboveground or belowground setting, depending on the application. It also used for residential applications include pumps for moving water from a well to the house or a sump pump which pumps water out of a basement in case of flooding. Some types of turbine pumps are used in residential applications, such as a liquid pump used to pump water from a drilled or dug well.
