The purpose of compressors is to move air and other gases from place to place. Gases, unlike liquids, are compressible and require compression devices, which although similar to pumps, operate on somewhat different principles. It is a device used to pressurize a working fluid. The function of compressor is to compress the fluid and deliver it at a pressure higher than its original pressure. Compression is required for a variety of purposes such as provide air for combustion, transport process fluid through pipelines, provide compressed air for driving pneumatic tools and to circulate process fluid through a certain process.
