Fiber optic adapters are used to mechanically and optically connect two fiber optic connectors. These are almost always female-to-female, while connectors are male. Usually, a fiber adapter consists of two main elements: the alignment sleeve and the housing. The alignment sleeve is the critical part of the adapter, providing the alignment of the two-connector ferrules. The alignment sleeve is usually a split "C″ and is made from a hard, low-wear material. The housing provides the important mechanical connection that holds everything together. The easiest way of cleaning adapters is with a pipe cleaner or alcohol-wetted cotton.

Fiber optic attenuators are used to reduce the power level of an optical signal, either in free space or in an optical fiber. These are devices that decrease the optical power in a fiber by a fixed or adjustable amount. It can be divided into two categories: fixed and variable. These are widely used in fiber optic telecommunication systems. The basic principle of operation of a common attenuator is controlled by the offset of the input and output fibers, or an air gap between the input and output fibers. Other techniques are used in the operation of advanced fiber optic attenuators; it uses temperature, twisting, tension, or current acting of some type of optical material. Optical attenuator selection depends on a multitude of factors, including wavelength, attenuation levels, and temperature stability.

Fiber optic contact closures provide point-to-point contact closure information over a single fiber optic cable. These are used to convert up to ten contact closure inputs into fiber optic signals for transmission over a single fiber optic link.

Fiber optic converters are designed to take copper networks, convert them to fiber optic signals, and convert them back again. It has an integrated back plane. It represents an extremely flexible and scalable solution to the problems often encountered when using copper to interconnect communication nodes. Both multi-mode and single-mode fiber optic links are supported. Problems such as ground loops, isolation and lightning strikes are eliminated with the fiber optic converters. Fiber optic communications links can also be extended over much greater distances and take on physical topologies not available with copper networks.

Fiber optic links consist of multiple transparent glass or plastic cables that guide any type of information (sound, video and data) to its destination by means of light waves. These links used in the remoting of signals to and from cellular/personal communication systems, in the distribution of cable television signals, and in radar antenna remoting.

A fiber optic speed sensor is used for sensing the rotational speed of an N bladed fan in a turbo-machine application including a polarization-preserving optical circuit positioned adjacent the locus described by the remote ends of the blades. It has been developed, bench tested and rig tested in a real turbine airflow environment. It employs an innovative design using a pressure tube and fiber optic micro bend transducer in order to capture turbine blade pass wake frequency. A signal processor into turbine rotational speed can convert the blade pass frequency. The FOSS offers unique potential to meet future requirements for performance (0 to 25KHz) and environmental tolerance.

Fiber optic switches are routing an optical signal without electro-optical and opto-electrical conversions. It can interface with two types of cables, single mode and multimode.  Single mode is an optical fiber that will allow only one mode to propagate. The fiber has a very small core diameter of approximately 8 µm. It permits signal transmission at extremely high bandwidth and allows very long transmission distances. Some fiber optic switches can be used for both single mode and multimode cables.

Fiber Optic Thermometer is designed and developed capable of measuring temperatures of minute test samples without disturbing or heat sinking the test sample. A fiber optic thermometer comprises a fiber optic light guide for carrying illuminating light to an optical probe, a source of illuminating light of wavelengths within a pre-selected wavelength region and an optical probe at the end fiber optic light guide. It is ideal for microwave-type applications.

Fiberglass or glass fibre is a material made from extremely fine fibers of glass. It is used as a reinforcing agent for many polymer products, the resulting composite material properly known as fiber-reinforced polymers (FRP) is called fiberglass and it is made as panels and they are used in translucent roofs, sidewalls, roofs, marine, electronic, commercial, medical structures and also in other areas where extra protection is needed. Another reason for using fiberglass panel plastic product is for extra protection from something that is in a high danger area. This type of material allows for dent resistance, has low thermal expansion, is corrosion resistant, has insulating properties, is lightweight as well as stiff, and has a high impact tolerance. This product is also fire resistant and can insulate thermal and electric areas.

Fieldbus interface module allows fieldbus process monitoring in any plant. It provides a connection between foundation fieldbus field devices and any host system with RTU serial interface.
