Brake/Meter injector belt consists of two consecutive belts mounted in a single frame. The first belt in line is the brake belt, which is a high friction design. The brake belt is commonly used for product hold back. The brake/meter section normally runs at about the same speed as incoming transport conveyor. The injector belt normally runs at the same speed as the switch. This combination of brake section and meter section creates the minimum gap between conveyed products in product stream, required by the switch in order to merge or divert products.

A brake is a machine element used for applying a force to a moving surface to slow it down or bring it to rest in a controlled manner. In doing so, it converts the kinetic energy of motion into heat, which is dissipated into the atmosphere. Brake is used in motor vehicles, trains, airplanes, elevators, and other machines. It is usually of a friction type in which a fixed surface is brought into contact with a moving part that is to be slowed or stopped.

A brake is a device for slowing or stopping the motion of a machine or vehicle, and to keep it from starting to move again. The kinetic energy lost by the moving part is usually translated to heat by friction. Alternatively, in regenerative braking, much of the energy is recovered and stored in a flywheel, capacitor or turned into alternating current by an alternator, then rectified and stored in a battery for later use.

Brakes of some description are fitted to most wheeled vehicles, including automobiles of all kinds, trucks, trains, motorcycles, and bicycles. Baggage carts and shopping carts may have them for use on a moving ramp.
